Is glaucoma hereditary??

Answers: Just like Jennifer said above me, glaucoma can be hereditary, but it can also pop up in people with no family history.

I have glaucoma on both my father's side and my mother's side...my mother is being treated with Xalatan drops for her glaucoma. It runs rampant in my family, so its pretty much my birth right! LOL

If it does run in your family, you should have annual check-ups so they can monitor your Intra-ocular pressure (IOP)
Yes it is. If you get checked regularly, they can find out if you may be a glaucoma suspect and treat you accordingly.
yes go have a complete eye exam including dilation
yeah. if you have a prob with your eyesight u should see an opthalmologist and say u have a family history.
It can be...does tend to run in families. If you have a family history of glaucoma, it is a good idea to have yearly eye exams to keep a close eye on your eye pressure and optic nerve status.

Although, there are some forms of glaucoma that occur in people who do not have a family history, too.
