Just for doctors or nurses, please??


Question: I feel sleepy all the time although I sleep from 8-9 hours daily. I am 16 years old. And I have never had such thing before.

Help me, I would appreciate it.
Answers: hellow Yazan...ur matter could be associated with some problem or no problem.....some people natrurally require more hours of rest and sleep and some can do away with about 5 hrs of sleep at the most,.....u may be having early morning awakening from ur sleep sort fo related to some deep seated anxiety or depression, it could be ur sleep is disturbed by obstructive sleep apnea due to laxity of ur pharyngeal muscles , long uvula (both related /unrelated to obesity) , short fatty neck, a deviated nasal septum all of which contributes to snoring and hence disturbed sleep , also may be u lack REM sleep when the body is very exhausted people end up with the NREM sleep (not associated with vivid dreams) also paradoxically when u are awaken from REM sleep u feel u haven't slept enough....i wud suggest u take a light meal before u go to sleep or else have dinner early, drink milk (it is rich in trptophan), see a doc (neurology, e.n.t,dietician), avoid alcohol/smoking/caffeine at nite also do away wid tensions, exercise regularly/editate and avoid using an alarm clock to wake u up.
Do you feel thirsty all the time as well? Off hand you could possibly have diabetes. Go to your GP for a quick blood test.
Could be several things. First off a 'normal' teenager needs much more sleep than a 'normal' adult. It's possible that 8-9 hours isn't optimal for you. Secondly, there is a more serious possibility of sleep apnea. This is a condition which you stop breathing momentarily during REM sleep. It causes drowsiness and is also indicated in several other medical conditions. It is a serious condition and needs to be evaluated immediately. One of the major contributing factors to sleep apnea is being overweight. Your question doesn't mention this but if you are overweight this could be your problem. Best thing to do is to go see your doctor and get checked out.
maybe your not eating right or getting the right kind of sleep, you need REM sleep to feel rejuvenated, talk to YOUR doc about it
