Effictive Relief For Migranes??

Question: I've suffered from migranes since I was very young (Maybe 3 or 4) and I recently went to a specialist to be diagnosed and he confirmed it.

So far I've been unable to find effective pain relief from migranes (and yes I know your supposed to take the pain killer juring the aura phase of the migrane) These Migranes are extramly painful. I have to stop whatever im doing if and sit down if I get one and wont be able to do anything but sit/lie down for at least 5 hours.

This is stopping me getting on with my day to day life (Not to mention school work) and would really apreciate help with this.
Answers: OK, have you had blood work to find out what is causing the headaches? If not you need to do so. A low blood count can cause them, I had migraines for years, woke up with them, went to bed with them, but in 1998 I was having some tests run before surgery and they found out I had an irregular heartbeat, and they put me on a medication to correct that and the headaches almost stopped, the surgeon, told me, to get on a good healthy routine. To try to go to bed, same time each night, get up same time each morning, (ever go without sleep and then when you tried to sleep in and catch up, you got a really bad headache) he said drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, the brain does not like to be dehydrated, eat breakfast, (I used to go shopping with out eating breakfast and I always paid for it) like an egg, toast and orange juice. And he also told me to stop taking pain pills as they only helped temporarily, and rebounded to make the headache worse. This was the hardest thing I had to do, not take anything for the pain. But I did it.
Since you have had the headaches since you were very Young, I would also have the doctor rule out any chance of aneurysm also. This routine worked for me, I have not had a severe headache in 10 years. If I feel even the hint of a headache I drink two 9 oz glasses of water right down.
Hope this helps, headaches can really affect the quality of your life. Anne2
I have migraines related to seizures and I've known several other people to have migraines, unrelated to seizures.

The prescriptions drug Imitrex is a miracle drug for me - I take it after seizures to help with the migraines and it is very effective. My mom has migraines, too, and it works for her as well.
Advil seems to work if you don't want prescription, but do not take more than 6. read the directions on the bottle first.
Imitrex, for med is a god send i understand not want to take all sorts of med but Imitrex worked the best for me. Good luck. I would not wish mingrians onto anyone.
