Lupos: my mother was diagnosed with it and I believe I may have it as well... Professional Medical opinion plz?
Question: My mother was diagnosed recently with Lupus, with the physicians telling her she probably has had it since her mid 30's. I am 35, have the same medical history as her to this point, even down to the fact that I have had a major onslought of migraines since I was 33. I have issues with anxiety and depression, migrains, senseitvity to light and to touch, general fatigue, malaise, get bronchitis yearly, fever blisters, ulcers in my mouth, arthritis in 3 major joints on my right side, chronic diarrhea and the malar rash... Honestly I have more symptoms, but I am tired of typing. :) I have had several tests:
ANA Screen - Negetive
RA Quantitative - <20
Sedimentation Rate - 29
C-Reactive Protein - <.05
Basically because of the tests, the doctors dismissed Lupus, should I pursue this and push the dotors, the headaches have been daily for going on 3 years now, the pain I am in on a daily basis is unbearable, and the doctors think this is about pain meds, can anyone help me with this?
Answers: You can't blame the doctor for dismissing SLE based on labs that clearly don't support this diagnosis. They can't justify this diagnosis, not to themselves and certainly not to your insurance company. Besides, there are several other conditions that share your symptoms. If you're willing, attempt to get a differential diagnosis. If you don't have SLE, you may have something treatable.
If you have a history of drug-seeking (or even a history of getting pain meds) then no wonder they think it's all about the drugs. When it comes to addictive substances, it pays to be cautious about who is getting them.
Have you thought about alternative medicine? Perhaps accupuncture? If this suggestion pisses you off and you think to yourself, I just want the pain to stop and you are thinking about pills.... then you are a drug seeker and won't admit it to yourself. I believe that you are genuinely in pain. I am not discounting your word. All I am saying is that is the doctors are being *******, then it's time to seek alternatives. You will be amazed at what an herbalist or accupunturist can do for you. You should at least look into it.

I did a web search on the same thing-ulcers in my mouth and it said to take zinc and folic acid, which I did, and I haven't had another ulcer since.
