My 3 year old has had very soft bm and very bad smelling bm since the day she was born,??
Question: she is 3 now and nothing has changed her doctor says this is normal for some children, but i just dont know, her bm is usualy like oatmeal which goes up her back and down her legs, sometimes it is more watery and will be very very smelly, and she has probably only had a solid bm about 10 to 20 times in her 3 years total. thought she might be lactose intolerant so we tried a few things nothing seems to be working, need help!
Answers: Your doctor could be right, but since you are still concerned, maybe you should have her get checked for malabsorption conditions (where the GI system doesn't absorb all the nutrients it's supposed to). Is she small, underdeveloped, or weak for her age? Is she less energetic than others her age? Does she have anemia? If yes, then she might have a malabsorption problem. Two examples of these are Celiac Disease and Inflammatory Bowel Disease, but there are more.
