I just gave birth a week ago by c-section due tohighblood pressure and severe edema.??
Question: I amnow at homeand thepressure is still high. The doctor has put meon Aldomet 250mg three timesa day. My pressure is 180/120. I amalsobreastfeeding. Should I continue tobreastfeed or give formula? Please help.
Answers: Your systolic pressure(the upper reading) is high, it is the the pulse pressure, the difference between the two readings that you need to be concerned about. Depending on your age. There should be a difference of approx. 40 mm of Hg between the two. An ideal BP, again, depending on your age, should be 120/80. As far as your concerns about breast feeding, some medications can have harmful effects on baby's. Your Dr. should have explained this to you. If he did not, you should seek the help of a pediatrician. Remember, your child's health is of prime concern here, as well as treatment of your hypertension.
Good luck
Your DR or pediatrician is the only one who can answer that. I would suggest formula till you hear from them.
That would be a question for your Dr or the pharmacist. If the meds won't effect the baby then by all means continue the breastfed that is what is best.
all i can say about that is SPACE BAR!
I agree with the previous posts--check with your doctor or read the prescription information sheet that should have come with the medication (if you don't have it, your local pharmacist can easily answer this for you.)
A lot of meds say to avoid breastfeeding while taking the med, so definitely consult your doctor or Ob/gyn for more info.
Good luck!
