Can you please help...? She needs motivation...??
Question: ok my cousin is 15 5'4 and is 60 pounds overwieght and my uncle has diabetes! the docter all ready said that she need to be at a healthy weight or else she WILL get diabetes! the docter gave her a plan to start with, she was eating healthy and was going to the gym. after a month she got real depressed when she didnt see any results... what can i do to keep her motivated? I tryed to tell her that she will be healthy and well but she want to QUIT!! Help please
Answers: She needs to stick with it another month. Maybe you can execrise with her to keep her motivated.
Old habits die hard. Be the best friend you can be. Let her know that we all have choices to make, but avoiding diabetes should be good motivation. She probably can't see all the problems that affect her dad.
Maybe you can walk with her and go to the gym together. It does take time to change, but a person has to want to.
The first poster is right; she needs someone to be right with her and help her. One of the biggest reasons that I've succeeded in my goals to be healthier and weigh less is the fact that my two best friends are right there with me. We motivate each other to keep going, and have a lot of fun cooking healthy meals and working out together. Make exercise into something she does just for herself; it's pampering, not punishment! One month is not going to give her much results, either no matter how hard she works. I've been working on my weight for almost 6 months, and I didn't see instant results. About 3-5 pounds per month is what she can expect to lose, but it adds up! I'm on the same journey your cousin is; heart disease and diabetes run in both sides of my family, and last winter I decided that being 5'9 and 223 pounds was not going to cut it, even though I'm only 19. I refused to give up on myself and deny myself the best chance at a healthy future, and I've lost 29 pounds so far! I still have another 30 pounds left to lose and it's a tough road, but I know my health is worth it! She can get ahold of me through Y!A id she wants to and I will answer any questions she has or just talk to her. Health is so important, it's worth working hard at!
you should stop pressuring her with diabetes and obesity.i know obesity is bad but telling some one your gonna get diabetes if you dont lose weight now will just get them sad and depressed maybe a little motivated but dont push them so hard that they will fall because they wont be able to get up. i used to be like that and everytime people say that things it just gets me frustrated and i rebel against them but when they started to treat me normally and maybe a few you should lose weight and wow you got skinnier really got me motivated and happy to hear people saying that i got results even if i know for a fact that i didnt lose a single pound that week. you should get her tpo play sports like soft ball or cheer leading basketball is good too the thing is to stop telling her that she is fat and unhealthy and she will get diabetes just talk to her give her a little prize when she lose a pound and dont make her go to a doctor they dont really work in my opinion all they do is say all your problems and that just makes you depressed. just keep going to the gym 3 times a week and run for a mile and thats it ofcourse you have to eat healthy too but one hamburger a week will not hurt or take her to subway its healthy plus it gets you full. but cut out totally on junk food and sodas just drink water or juices any kind of fruit juice is fine
