My boyfriend is moving in with me we just found out he has diabetes. I need to go shopping for food!!??

Question: I need to know some foods that we can eat , folowing a diabetic diet that we both can enjoy, any suggestions ??
Answers: eat sugar . I have a lame God.
I know that he would need to drink allot of orange juice, but he should ask his doctor FIRST...not us strangers. You just want to be on the safe side, know what i mean?
You should get the free hand-outs at the doctor's office that are there for just that. Book stores have cookbooks that are specifically compiled for diabetics
Lots of fruit and vegis. No pop, unless it is diet, or sweetened with Splenda. All meats are okay, as is water. Juice should be natural, and breads should not be white, very high in sugar. Also, no alcohol. Milk is okay too.
You should check different condiments for their sugar content. I know ketchup and some salad dressings are high in sugar.
It is okay for him to have things with sugar. It is also okay for them to be in the house, as long as he limits how much of it he eats. Like if he wants chips, or a pop, he should limit his sugar intake all day. But no matter what, the bod does need sugar.
Instead of using sugar, use sweetner, Sweet n Low, and Splenda are the best. 1 packet =2 teaspoons. It is very sweet, but not sugar. You can also cook and bake with them too!
You can eat anything you like ... just be sure it's in moderation .... the less sugar the better of course .... but it isn't always sugar that affects diabetics .....
Peanut Butter shoots my blood sugar level through the roof ... go figure?
In a real world, proper eating, stay with the right proportions, and low carbs to eat to fill you up. I am one. H e needs to see a nutrisionus. good luck.
Lean meats, fresh fruits, non starchy vegetables, wheat pasta and brown rice, in moderation...salads, nuts, popcorn.
A lot of fresh vegetables is good. Starches in moderation. Pork and chicken are better than beef. So is fish. For sweets, things like angel food cake with fresh fruit. Graham crackers make good snacks with fruit.
Check out this website, go to the e-book section on the left. Almost at the bottom of the list is a book called Diet Liberation which can help with this!! There is a free look at the first 78 pages of the book. This book is all about eating healthy foods and it will talk about sugar and diet, etc.

There are also lots of books on the web which can help!

Good Luck! (congrats on moving-in....its a big step!)
It's recommended to follow a low GI plan - this is best for diabetes. You can buy several informative books relatively inexpensively that explain lifestyle eating. It's easy to follow and a healthy, suitable option for anyone

(recipe of the day section)
Step-By-Step Diabetic Cookbook Anne Cain is a good cookbook...
do a amazon.com search of diabetic cookbooks or check out the library
your local grocery store should have a section of speciality diabetic foods
I suggest you ask his doctor! She will tell you what menus to use!
Ask the doctor for a referral to a nutritionist. Make sure he checks is blood sugar several times a day and follow what the doctor says. Not skipping meals is very important.
his doctor should be able to advise you on all that sort of stuff.

google it.. there's bound to be a bunch of stuff on the internet about cooking for diabetics etc.
get lots of fruits & vegetables and healty stuff avoid sugars. i know a boy that had diabetes and he cant have mroe than a spoonful of a mcflurry from mcdonalds because all the sugar or something like that so stick to healthy foods
I know how to improve diabetes.
I help my friend's mom lower her blood sugar from 155 to 105.
If you wanna know how, email me at jessieshuai@gmail.com
It can be very tricky. I strongly suggest that you both see a nutritionist together. Here is the web site of my nutritionist, you may find it helpful.

All of these fruits people are telling you to eat will raise your boyfriend's blood sugar. My daughter has had type 1 diabetes since she was 6 so I know. Does your boyfriend have type 1 or type 2? Type 1 needs insulin shots. Type 2 can usually control their blood sugar by diet or pills. Any carbs will raise his blood sugar. Your boyfriend's doctor needs to have him see a nutritionist that can give him a meal plan to follow.
Low GI foods (look them up on the net) and make smaller more frequent meals - cut out any unnecessary sugar (including fruit as this contains fructose) - eat sensibly with a low fat low joule oriented diet.
healthy food less junk means less sugar
