I have sensitivity to hot and cold on a tooth that has root canal and crown. Any advice??
Answers: Sometimes if the tooth was a molar or a back tooth they can have an extra canal, normally the back teeth only have three but on occasion they can have four. It could be that another canal needs to be treated. It could also be bruised, if you bit down on something hard it could have bruised the ligament around that tooth which can make is sensitive. It also may be that the tooth has become re-infected if that is the case your Dr. may send you to a endodontist or a root canal specialist that will take care of the remaining infection. Occasionally it is a different tooth but the tooth that had the original root canal and crown is having what is called referred pain (that means it feels like it's that tooth but it could be stemming from another tooth) I would definitely get into the Dr. and have them take an X-ray and do some standard tests.
If you had a root canal you shouldn't feel anything. The tooth should be dead.
I had problems for 7 months with a tooth that had a root canal. Not sensitive, but hurt when I bit down hard on anything.
I ended up having it pulled. After it was pulled you could see it had a crack that ran down the entire tooth & root.
Maybe your dentist didn't get the whole canal?
How long ago was the root canal done? If within the past couple of weeks, probably not anything to worry about. Longer than that, I would call the dentist office and let them know.
Go to the dentist..You may not have had a full root canal. Some teeth have several canals.
sensodyne toothpaste - used for a period of time will eventually coat the tooth and protect it from the pain - be patient - it may take a week or so
Go to see the dentist asap, and prepare because he`s going to make you suffer
if you go to a drug store, or a grocery store, if you look in the tooth paste isle, and mouth wash and all that stuff. thre should be certain kinds of tooth pastes that gaurd your teeth from hot and cold things, stuff that makes your teeth sensitive... I think it's called Sensodyne ... but I'm not sure
Hope this helps!
Go back to your dentist. If they didn't do it right the first time, they may put a new one in for free. Never had a root canal, but that happened with me for a crown.
