Whats wrong with my teeth??
Question: So here's the full scoop. 2 weeks ago, I had four fillings done. They were on teeth 2, 3, 15 and 31. They were all shallow fillings, none of them deep at all according to my dentist. and I'd assume so, since all four together only took about 40 min to do. I had to get my bite adjusted on the right side, and afterwards it felt fine for a while. Now, just yesterday, I started having pain on the upper right side of my teeth, possibly teeth 2 or 3. Except its not a lasting pain, its not sensitive to heat or cold, and it doesn't happen all the time even when i bite down, only sometimes. ive examined my teeth and i don't see any visible cracks and def no visible abscesses. Also I've been dealing with a bad cold/sinus for the past few days or so.
So what are some possibilities for this strange sensation?
thanks!
Answers: The fillings may need to be adjusted more. If your are having problems with your sinuses that could be it also. The end of the root of you tooth is very close to the sinus cavity. Go back to your dentist and have him/her check your bite. That may be all you need. If the fillings are as small as you say the sensitivity should only last a few days. I highly doubt a root canal is necessary since they are so small. Have the doc check your bite, if that doesn't work its probably just your sinus.
sour foods
whitening toothpaste both cause that sensation
It is normal for you have sensitivity for the first 4-6 weeks after fillings are done. If you have white fillings, then you may have sensitivity in them forever. Be careful not to crunch on anything really hard for the next week, because your fillings need time to completely harden. Call your dentist in about 4 weeks if you still have sensitivity. You may need a root canal in the tooth if the filling is too close to the pulp (nerve). Just wait and then see, it's too soon to tell.
The roots of maxilliary (upper) molars and premolars (back teeth) sometimes extend into the sinus area. You said you had been dealing with a bad cold/sinus infection. I think that you will find that when the infection is done your tooth pain will go away - the two are probably linked.
