Should people who whine about "western medicine" be banned from getting chemo if they get cancer??
Question: Or immunisation from measles or flu vaccinations? Or blood transfusions or organ transplants?
Anyway you get the idea.
I for one would be quite happy never to be treated by homeopathic magic water or have some middle aged wackette rub crystals over me.
Will the alt-med community make the same commitment?
Answers: A lot of Eastern practises are preventative so they can stop you getting serious illnesses like cancer in the first place. You have to be a bit more selective - these Eastern practises have their fair share of idiots and charlatans like anything else. But if you have the misfortune to get these serious illnesses then most people, regardless of their beliefs, would understand the need for invasive Western medical practises. We all pay our taxes.
Well that's a bit drastic, don't you think, after all, just because people disagree with whatever, it is no reason to be exclusionist. The sad fact is that when it comes to medicine, whether traditional or alternative, if you survive, then you are going to praise whatever helped you. Invariably it is people who are healthy who make sweeping statements, and if the day ever comes I am certain that if there was a cure for any ailment which might just inflict your traditional world, then you wouldn't care where the cure came from. Incidentally, you should really check up what is meant by alternative medicine you have obviously got your ideas from the cartoon network.
It is illegal for any practitioner of complimentary medicine to claim a cure for cancer and it is not ethical for them to give advice on western medicine. If a Dr has prescribed a patient a form of medication and then they come to me for Reiki, then I am not in any position to tell the client to stop taking it. Complimentary medicine is jsut what it states. .... . Complimentary and it works alongside western medicine. It provides people with more choices as to how they wish to be treated. Its not a case of choosing one or another, black or white. The two work hand in hand, although many people have experienced results from using one method or another, it has been good for them to have the choices.

I certainly passed on chemo for my breast cancer which had spread to lymph nodes. I saw too many friends and family suffer from it and still die from their cancers to believe that it would be of any benefit to me.
Medical science has not really progressed much from the slash, burn, poison approach to cancer which has been around for forty years since the war on cancer was declared and billions of dollars have been spent looking for a cure .
Oncologists now feel (five years after my diagnosis) that chemo may not be appropriate or necessary for all women with breast cancer. The radical mastectomy was used all through the early 20th century (for about 80 years). It's use was uneqivocally not substantiated by research.
Chemo destroys your organs and is very hard on your body. Everyone doesn't choose to get chemo for their cancer. There are so many alternative treatments. I believe more people should look into them.

They don't have to ban me from getting cancer treatment because I use the preventatives and IF I did get it I would still use the alternative meds to treat the cancer. I have seen chemo suck the life out of people. I have seen people use alternatives and recover.
Also as I have said before you can use the 'western meds' with the alternatives.......Remember I did say CAM treatment is fine if that is what you need as well as prescribed meds if that is what you NEED.

Like if someone you knew said they cured an illness strictly with alternative and you knew they had been really bad off and so that made a believer out of you. Then you got deadly ill and the conventional docs told you they couldn't do a thing for you

People come to this board because they want to know the alternatives so they can make a choice. If they want to know about the conventional meds they would go to that board.

believe it or not the people that ask about alternative meds ask because they educated themselves enough about the conventional meds and they are often given positive advice for getting conventional treatment when needed.
You are the one that bashes the alternative.
****edit --- a good alternative doctor will not tell any patient to abandon western medicine for homopathy. They will work with the patient and their doctor to wean them off of one while treating the condition with the alternative and if the alternative isn't working then they will reverse back to the conventional.
So once again your concept of alternative is wrong.

If I ever produced a cancer then I'd be very scared and I'd look around for someone credible to support me. Knowing how highly persuasive doctors are about their services and knowing that I was banned from going to them whilst vulnerable would be the first step towards my recovery.

Morton...did your wife run off with a Homeopath? Will you ever stop blasting this discipline? I have used homeopathy and it worked. It works on animals where there is no placebo effect, and years ago I remember reading that the British Royal family uses a Homeopath as their primary health provider. You are ill informed medically which is at least as bad as quack medicine. Do you remember way back in time when mercury was given as a cure, when whole body x-rays and fluoroscopes were absolutely safe,when the world was flat? Sorry but allopathic/ conventional medicine never has had all the answers, does not now, and never will.
They probably wouldn't need it, quite frankly there have been people who have had more success shaking cancer into remission by intense diet and exercise. Chemo might be as a last resort.
And people who are suspicious about western medicine are okay with vaccinations and transfusions, however there are some like Mercola who go overboard as to shun sunglasses, soy milk, and purified water.
i had cancer and went to western doctors. what do you think convinced me not to use them any more. been cancer free for 25 years and also was relieved of one kidney. have had to work pretty hard to stay healthy without docs so i don't need to lose the other one. i'm pretty sure that i'm happy with avoiding vaccinations and chemo. but i'm pretty worried about you being angry with the health care that one day could save your life. i watched too many friends and family die from medical intervention in hospitals. very sad, very, very sad.

Medicine is just for folks that can afford it anyway. So why would you have a problem with somebody trying something that has worked for centuries?

I haven't heard of that. Leukemia is an odd aliment to be worried about. It's not that common. Personally, I'd get leukemia before I'd eat a beansprout. They remind me of teeny-tiny yuppy aliens or so
I would say yes, it mite be the only way to save hes feet depending on the doctor that dose the chelation therapy can also help the other problems

I find it hard to believe that mixing bleach with vinegar will do anything other than kill you.
Take quinine instead of chloramphenicol for malaria. It is a sureshot remedy for malaria.
