Boots are now doing the flu jab. Is it worth getting? Some people say don't bother and just take Echinacea?
Question: Can't decide. What is your opinion on it?
Answers: I would highly recommend it. We were offered the flu jab in work three years ago and it was the first time I had a whole winter without manky germs!! Most of my colleagues thought that it made a big difference too. I have paid to get it each year since and will be in the queue at Asda when it comes out again.
There is supposed to be a very bad flu on the way, you can pay for the jab if you are not entitled to it free, but from what I've heard everyone is being advised to get it.
My mum had a flu jab a few years ago, and after she had it, she got ill with flu like symptoms. Turned out the small live bit of the illness which was in the vaccine, made her poorly as it was too much for her body to cope with. (Mum has Multiple Scelerosis - can't spell it) I wouldn't bother getting it unless you have asthma or respitory illness, have weak immunie system, are elderly or very young - child.
They only recommend the flu jab for the elderly and the sick, so I wouldn't bother unless you fall into one of those categories (my mum had it because of her asthma - and she's a bit on the old side). Too many jabs can build up a resistance in the body, so I've been told anyway.
I've never had one, and I've been OK!
Getting a flu shot is a good idea, it provides you with protection from this years virus and a little protection from future years' virus.
I think you are only being advised to get the flu jab if you fall into a high risk category, eg elderly, or respiratory problems. You should get an opinion from your pharmacist. I think taking Echinacea is also a good idea. It cant do any harm anyway.

Lots of fluids. Enough water that you are peeing all the time! haha! Rest helps your body recuperate, so get plenty. Echinacea is good. I use Chamomile tea also. I helps me relax and puts me to sleep.
(My GP has been taking 2000mg of Vitamin C daily for 20yrs and claims he has never had he flu since.)
